Self-care.
For every-body.
A Basic B Body scrub is not designed to change what you look like — it’s a self-care tool that’s the perfect accompaniment for any rest day. It will slough away dead skin cells, buff dry spots, and deeply moisturise skin without disrupting your skin barrier. It’s designed to feel luxurious and indulgent, so that even a simple shower becomes an aromatic delight.
Everybody’s got a body - it’s time to show yours some love.
My goal was to create something so luscious that you’d want to make time for yourself and show yourself some love. As someone recovering from chronic fatigue, I have a love-hate relationship with my body. I am still learning the importance of consistent self-care, and not just hitting the accelerator when I feel burnt out.
An idea that has helped me is the concept of loving yourself — despite. With the constant barrage of advertising that promotes a singular beauty standard, it’s hard to accept, let alone love, the body you were born with. No matter what anyone says, I don’t like my nose, my tummy, and my unstable energy levels. For me, I love myself despite my nose, my tummy, and my unstable energy levels.
Brewing up an idea
It’s hard to know what came first: the desire for a zero-waste approach or the aversion to unfamiliar chemicals in my beauty routine. As a result of this combination I started making a lot of my own products, one of which was a body scrub. I’m a simple skincare girly and I don’t like using a heap of products, but for a self-care day, I love an exfoliating and moisturising body scrub. There's nothing like that post-scrub feeling of fresh and rejuvenated skin complete with a sense of total relaxation — it's my favourite.
However, the most disappointing thing about homemade products is that they can lack the luxe feeling of a store-bought product. When I set out to make my scrub, I wanted it to feel luscious and indulgent every time. This meant going back to basics and making sure I was selective with the ingredients, choosing only high-quality, skin-loving plant oils and natural exfoliants. I also included my favourite elements of the store-bought products — beautiful packaging and scents that give that ‘treat yourself’ feeling. With this, I started to experiment with the first batch of Basic B Body scrubs.
Eliminating synthetic fragrances, using naturally derived ingredients, and prioritising low waste packaging were non-negotiables during the development stage. These principles are the backbone of all Basic B Body products.
